If there is one host, it could be a host. It there are multiple
entities, then it is a domain. For instance, gathman.org was
originally just my home server. Now, two more family members run linux
servers, and it is a domain.
Where do you take this definition from? Per the DNS RFCs, every host name
is also a domain name. And to be a host name, a domain name must have at
least one A record.
So "mehnle.net" is both a host name and a domain name, as is
"hotmail.com".
The original point was that if you have multiple hosts, giving them all
the same name is problematic.
Thankfully, no one has even remotely suggested such a thing.
