I think it would be a mistake to spend another year trying to fix SMTP, and

MTAs using different authentication methods can talk to each

things.

Sending a random string of characters is data exchange.
Without a definition of what this string means, it won't
become anything more than data. It won't magically turn
into information, on the contrary, it will become desinformation.

Therefore you are wrong.

It is clear that different people give a different meaning to the
word "sender" and also it is clear that this results in confusion
or worse where forwarders (aliases, mailing lists) are involved.

Therefore you are wrong.

Publishers of SPF are expecting that forwarders, when not on the
list of approved hosts, are NOT using the publishers name in
"mail from". Publishers expect that the forwarder is the sender.

Forwarders expect to be able to continue to use the publishers
name in "mail from". Forwarders expect that the publisher stays
the sender.

Quite a difference and an important one.

That, plus you are still signing with "dash dash space Dave"
in stead of "dash dash space newline Dave".
