Hi all,
one thing first: Don't forget to register[2] for the election! There's
only three days left for registration.
Now... I have decided to accept my nomination for the next council, so I
think I'll start and explain where I'd like the SPF project to go in 2006
(and, other council candidates, please don't stay silent!):
Ensure that SPFv1 reaches RFC status. Continue to protect SPFv1's
integrity.
Build the new website. Build a new reference implementation. Build a
good test suite. Get SPF into MTAs proper and into OS distros.
Do better on public relations. Do a grassroots "Spread SPF!" campaign
to get in touch with domain owners and ESPs/ISPs.
Create an SPFv2.1 based on v=spf1 and spf2.0, to end the SPF/S-ID
conflict and support dkim/pgp/smime and perhaps other mechanisms.
Try to raise funds from the EU or other governments for SPF and related
implementation projects.
Incite research on sender reputation. Perhaps build a prototype repu-
tation database.
As for my SPF-related history, if you're interested, read what I wrote in
my 2004 campaign[1]. Since then, I've been a member of the council and
tried to lead SPF in the right direction.
(When judging my work as a council member, please disregard the stuff I did
outside that position. E.g., regard my work in directing the setup of the
new website and in directing the refreshing of Mail::SPF::Query, but not
the in-the-trenches work I did as one of the webmasters, or the actual
coding on M:S:Q. I almost certainly would have done the non-council stuff
also if I hadn't been on the council. Likewise, I intend to keep doing
such work in the future, whether I'm on the new council or not.)
Julian.
