accept mail from such an RFC ignorant domain?

You and David are correct.

Our WCSAP does not do it though, and I guess that is because the CBV is the
last of total suite of other checks that do verify the domain.  SPF for
example, I have to check but a NXDOMAIN creates a reject. But i have to
check this if that is how we have it implemented.  Overall, the CBV is the
final action/test done before lower overhead items are done. It is not
someone we want to do for all transactions.

Nonetheless, the POSTMASTER is not a candidate for a CBV beyond the domain
check. Actually going into a CBV SMTP session would be a waste of time. That
was all the point I was making.
