Are Wayne and Meng alive and kicking ?
They should have been notified on 2006-02-14 about the status change,
but I haven't heard of either of them since then.
I think we're safe as long as the IAB appeal hasn't been decided yet.
After that, we need Meng and Wayne to be responsive.
And so it happens, the IAB has just sent their response WRT the appeal:

Meng and Wayne, have you been contacted by the RFC Editor about draft-
schlitt-spf-classic having entered AUTH48 status? As far as I know the
RFC publication process[1,2], you should have been. If not, could you
please contact the RFC Editor <rfc-editor(_at_)rfc-editor(_dot_)org> and state
your
readiness for the "Authors' 48 hours" (AUTH48) review and request that
they send you the edited document for review? When you have received the
edited document, please forward it to spf-discuss ASAP.
Wayne, could you please send the list of last minute changes that we
compiled to spf-discuss for a final review?
We're now finally about to get an RFC, guys! (Even though it'll be an
Experimental one and in conflict with the Sender ID stuff...)
