Sorry I can't resist...
The _REALLY_ funny thing is that he should be able to easily write his
own parser to just remove the "</>" and "<keep>" and "</drop>" character
sequences and he'd have his own markup that he could read. Its just one
form of structured data to antoher form, right? A guy who helped write
an OS should be able to write his own parser, right? He really seems to
have a problem reading xml, not with the concepts of meta language,
markup, and heirarchy. He could even have one to write it back to XML?
Maybe it can't be done because his syntax keeps "losing" data required
to go back to XML? Hmmm... That should really sound some alarms bells if
that's the case. If not, LML (Linus Markup Language) would be another
way to do for those really opposed to XML "readability".
Another point. ANY "leader" != master of the universe. Listen to what
leaders say but, don't be a lemming and follow blindly. Think for
yourself. Truth is really not that elusive.

People with worthwhile opinions don't use foul language. Ignore it.
It depends on community norms. Maybe that's the way Linux people talk.
Leaders heavily influence how people behave. I've been in lots of groups
where you could pick out the Microsoft people because they were the ones
swaying back and forth in their seats. ;-}
Anyhow, the basic flaw in Torvalds' rant is that however easy it is to
design a syntax for a little language, it is easier not to design a
syntax; however easy it is to write a parser, it is easier not to write
a parser.
