It depends on community norms. Maybe that's the way Linux people talk.

Leaders heavily influence how people behave. I've been in lots of groups where you could pick out the Microsoft people because they were the ones swaying back and forth in their seats. ;-}

Anyhow, the basic flaw in Torvalds' rant is that however easy it is to design a syntax for a little language, it is easier not to design a syntax; however easy it is to write a parser, it is easier not to write a parser.
