<xsl:key name="ItemsWithName" match="$ItemFiles//item[(_at_)name]"
use="@name"/>
a key only does one document at a time, but it's not usually much pf a
loss, as you can do
<xsl:key name="ItemsWithName" match="item[(_at_)name]" use="@name"/>
...
<xsl:apply-templates
select="$ItemFiles/key('ItemsWithName',current()/@name)"/>
which looks up the key in all the documents held in $ItemFiles.
