Mark Crispin <MRC(_at_)panda(_dot_)com> writes:
My experience is that netnews servers silently drop any messages which do not
conform to their expectations, with no indication of any failure.
Correctly written netnews servers log the condition and drop the
message.
Broken netnews servers, such as Bnews, sometimes modify the message in
an attempt to fix the problem. The "fix" usually makes things worse.
The damaged message can then propagate to many other systems,
preventing an undamaged article from arriving through another path or
giving the original offender no motivation to correct the problem.
