Gatewaying from newsgroup is a case equivalent to email coming from mail list.

+ 0.8 See below.

Neither one the designers of DK[IM] are particularly interested in dealing with as is evident in previous discussions in regards to "3rd-party" policy considerations or 3rd-party signers.

+1.

While I agree that the News/Email gating design is nearly equivalent to a mail list, there are many different considerations.

The main one off the top my head is that you don't really have to transform a list distribution because it is already within an EMAIL spectrum.

This is not quite the case with a NEWS2EMAIL or a EMAIL2NEWS gate simply because there are issues when mixing headers.

One good example is a MUA receiving a popped in email, but when it comes to the "natural reply" (not Forwarding or Reply to All) it see its as a NEWS ARTICLE because it sees a newsgroup: header, hence the NewsGroup Message Input Dialog box appears.

To reply back to the author, you have to Reply to All.

Sort of like the opposite with Mailing List "Natural Reply" issues where some LS systems will force the Reply-To: to the list address so that the natural reply goes back to the list. Otherwise, you have to Reply to All to write to the list (and the author too).

The main point is that the in this case, the gate failed to remove the newsgroup: header when moving the mail into an email spectrum.

But yes, in general, it is nearly the same type of scenario as a LS with 3rd party considerations, transformation or mail alteration integrity issues, etc.
