I understand this, but it somewhat bothers me that it appears that we
will be going back to square one and ignoring the discussions that
have taken place elsewhere, and what has been learned by actual
deployment of actual systems.

Looks like that's going to happen because there were strong objections to
the semantics of each approach.  But ignoring the research already completed
is a mistake, indeed.

I, for one, am interested in inventing [1] a new DNS record type and DNS
record class to replace the abuse of TXT records and hard-wired name spaces,
respectively, while keeping the concepts of DMP in tact as long as those
concepts aren't way off base.

[1] "Stealing" was the word used at the BOF, but it was a DNS WG member's
idea.  Speaking of which, any DNS WG members present?
