Why? Just setup an HTTP server at the domain that is used for email addresses
if you want this sort of simple configuration to work.

There may be other operational or political considerations that make it a
lot more complicated than "just".

I must say that although the Outlook 2007 autodiscover protocol is
disgusting, they have at least covered a lot of operationally difficult
cases.
