These died on the grounds of being a ridiculously over-engineered paper
protocol. The simpler -a version reduces connection startup time from 9
round trips to 5, not counting any TLS optimizations (see the summaries in
the appendix). The -b version includes a capability cache and stuff I
forget.
On the other hand I think faster message submission is more likely to make
headway as part of JMAP.
