Yes, that was the idea. As Ned pointed out, people have proposed many
versions of quoted-unprintable over the years.
Interestingly, 8BITMIME is almost universally adopted. BINARYMIME not so
much.
It's not very surprising. 8BITMIME is trivial to implement on systems
with 8 bit bytes (all of them, this millenium), BINARYMIME very
difficult if your internal line ending is not CR-LF.
