You simply have a new root, the one which will decide who gets r1, who
gets r2, etc. This is simply playing with words, like the ITU when
they claim the telephone has no root (simply because the equivalent of
the root zone file is hardwired in the international exchanges).
And you break a nice property of the DNS, the consistency of naming
(the separator is the same, whatever the level, or the zone you're
in).
- Support implicit name resolution selection. This is essentail
for the transition period.
This is simply a default, hardwired in the name server. Every Web
browser has it (try typing "ibm", without the ".com" in your
browser). You will not get a Nobel prize for this.
