Indeed.  Having elections means determining who's
eligible to vote, and that has all kinds of cascading
consequences.  A kind of funny one is that it could
provide incentives to attend meetings, which isn't
necessarily good (in the past there have been instances
of companies wanting very much to get one of their
employees on the IESG or IAB).

I'm not that crazy about publicizing nominations,
for the reasons you mention, but the pressure's been
on for a number of years to do it and it may be
worth a shot.  If MonsterCorp starts larding up the
leadership with their own employees or it turns into
a popularity contest it can be undone, but it may be
worth a shot.  Enough people feel the current
process isn't working to suggest that the current
process really isn't working.
