The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is holding a Hackathon to

everyone.

I realize that these things are often not planned a long way in advance, but
for future events, as much notice as possible would be helpful.

It’s now less than four weeks to the IETF meeting, and many of us have
(non-refundable) flights already booked. People on tight budgets, like students
— exactly the kind of new people we want to attract to things like a hackathon
— are likely to have booked well in advance to save money. Sort-notice
additions to the schedule like this inadvertently favor those with generous
corporate travel budgets to cover airline change fees.
