I can set the environment variables QUERY_STRING and SCRIPT_NAME at

I was thinking along those lines but cannot see at all how an apache
configuration would allow some queries to work and some queries not
to work. Unless apache is passing the query string wrong. The
apache is pretty stock. After remaking the namazu index, new query
strings started failing.

It caught to the limitation of RLimitCPU and RLimitMEM ?

It is that certain new strings are failing as queries, but queries in
general aren't failing. In other words, "shire" as a query was
working befoer I rebuilt, now it is not. But other strings work as
query strings.

"chad" does not but "chad*" does.

Best
Chad
