And MH, by its very intent, is a highly flexible tool. When you understand
the value of its tool-based approach to handling mail, you'll realize that
most of the functionality you want you can add yourself by writing shell
scripts around the existing commands; there no need to add everyone's
pet functionality into the core.

But you cannot switch to, in this modern email world, more appropriate
concepts this way. I'm thinking about MIME handling in general. Yes,
MIME support had been added back then, but nmh's concepts did not
change in respect to MIME. Probably a lot of stuff had been done
right, but some may not.

Which isn't to say things don't need to be changed. But the die-hard MH
user community has been using this software for over two decades, and most
of us are unimpressed by the Linux way of doing 'software development.'

Do you think that the then taken conceptual decisions will be correct
forever? One thing I learned from, what you call the Linux way of
doing 'software development' is that later you'll always know better
and hence you should change. Nothing remains the same.

Note that I do not declare that I know better than you how to do
everything, but I think about change and how better concepts could
look like.
