I don't think '_' is a very good choice. It's too commonly used as a word
separator in text strings. Why not use the Git convention: unseen~3 ?

i agree that '_' is a little tainted -- i was surprised that it's
not legal in sequence names. '_' is more mnemonic, for me at
least, but either would be fine.
