The misunderstanding was that the "new" proposal would remove the other
forms of identifiers. Apparently there was never any intention of doing that

Well, it did seem almost too good to be true. I will carefully read your latest
response stating your objections to even an rfc822 DN, and then get back to
you.
I confess that I am disappointed.
