PM: help with default lockfile

1996-03-05 21:50:12
Hi,

I've just installed procmail as a normal (unpriviledged) user
to do some general mail filtering. I've got a small problem
and hope that someone can help me...

Here goes:
By default procmail will attempt to lock $DEFAULT$LOCKEXT (which
in my case is `/usr/mail/username.lock') before updating the
default mailbox. The problem is that the /usr/mail/ directory
in my system has not got enough permission for normal user to
modify (It's chmoded to drwxrwxr-x bin(userid) mail(groupid)).

This means every time procmail attempts to deliver mail to
the default box, it will try locking several times without success.
The mail will eventually get through when procmail gives up, but
with pretty long delay and quite a few error msg's in the log file.
Is there anyway of stopping this short of asking the sys administrator
to chmod the directory to all permissions allowed?

Any help appreciated..

Leslie
