That condition line requires at least one alpha-numeric in front of
"<(_dot_)*(_at_)(_dot_)*>" So it won't match on lines containing only an 
address. It
matches the first address encountered that is preceded by an
alpha-numeric. Era is correct that it won't match on the address format
"address (name)", but I don't see it very often.

Of course, since this requires the
presence of at least one alpha character before the opening bracket,
it will never even match fields with no real name, 

Right. Bishop specified "name" and "who", not addresses.
