Is it legal to put additional text on the Message-Id: header line

quotation marks or paren- theses for safety?

This is part of something for a filter, so it is indirectly
procmail-related.

    According to RFC 822:

: optional-field =
: / "Message-ID" ":" msg-id
: / "Resent-Message-ID" ":" msg-id
[...]
: msg-id = "<" addr-spec ">" ; Unique message id

So, no, you shouldn't have any additional text on "Message-Id:"
lines.

Under the current standard, rfc822, comments and folding white-space
are allowed before and after all lexical tokens in a message-id.

    Doh! Forget I said anything...
