Consideration, please (was Re: [PROCMAIL] RE: [PROCMAIL] RE: ...)

2001-04-05 10:00:44
In the last month or so there have been threads discussing both
adding "Subject: [tags]" and removing them. Obviously people
have their own preferences for this sort of thing and there is
no right or wrong position. But doesn't that clearly imply that
neither "solution" should be imposed on others? And especially
not to the whole list? And especially if it's not even implemented
that well?

Please, for those of you who have the need to munge headers for your
own purposes, consider that others might not share the same need and
may actually feel quite the contrary. Go ahead and munge headers
for your own use, but when reinjecting messages to the list please
do the rest of us the courtesy of unmunging them. (This will have the
added benefit of solving part of the observed recursion problem. But
please don't make this everyone else's problem too.) If your MUA
doesn't allow you to easily edit the Subject: before sending, try a new
MUA.

Thanks.
