Well, first of all, I should make it clear that I have this as the very
first recipe in my .procmailrc:
:0:
backup
So if anything breaks, I still have the original email.
Rip the attachments and the headers, the rest is inherently safe.
2. Is procmail the tool to use (it seems obvious, but what else is needed?
metamail? RipMIME? mpack?).
mpack is to send messages
don't know about RipMIME
metamail works for most things other than multipart/alternative
3. Are there any gotchas? I do some fairly simple mail preprocessing with
procmail, and I'm afraid I don't have the background to assess all the
risks.
Make a backup (see above) and test it on a single test account first

check "use passive FTP" in Internet Explorer's preferences
