We are a mail reading service, and read promotional email for \$300.00 per
message.
We have started receiving unsolicited commercial email from \yourcompany.

Your bill is as follows:

IANAL, but even I know that you can't set up such a thing and
charge for it *after the fact*. You can't collect for a "service"
the other party never agreed to and could not have known about.

You could waste your time notifying them, and then try and collect
for future spams, but even that's questionable. I've heard of
it being done with really repeating spammers, but I don't know of the
ultimate result.

In other forums (fora?), it's been proposed to put such things as
part of the SMTP connection process, but I have my doubts as to the
enforceability there, since English-language messages are not
strictly part of the SMTProtocol, and as such, probably not
legally required to be read.

I agree with the others, though, that there are other spam-action
forums, and this type of thing should go there. The spam was not
sent to all procmail-list members, or even all those who post;
I did not get it, for example. But even if it had, it would belong
elsewhere.

Cheers,
Stan
