length()

2004-07-01 08:28:37
Toen wij *David* W. Tamkin kietelden, kwam er dit uit:
*Ruud*:

M is the length of the 'mail', in this case one for dot. So you meant
L. To get a negative M you need an ugly big message.

Oh. I was working from memory and thought the size of the message
was L for its "length".

Let me try to re-define that L for you.

My first thought was 'large(ness)', since '> L' means that larger mails
are favoured and '< L' means that smaller mails are favoured.

Because I mainly use a size (=M) of 1 (via dot), and an exponent (=x)
of 1, the L becomes the factor, so to me the '> L' means 'times 1/L'
(I read the '> L' as 'above/over L') and '< L' means 'times L'.

Which somehow makes me think of (or remember) a *nice* length()
  * var ?? 1^1 > 1
(that includes embedded newlines).

And a new |a| > |b|
(without abs, but both |a| and |b| <= 46,340 = MAXINT^0.5)

  a = -3
  b = -10
  :0
  *          1^0
  *$ dot ??  1^2 < $a
  *$ dot ?? -1^2 < $b
  { action }

I've received a lot of messages with negative content
in my time but not in that sense. Thanks for the correction.

Negative content is in the eye of the beholder. ;)
