Re: length()

Let me try to re-define that L for you.

Not necessary, Ruud.

Here's my mnemonic: L should have been the Length of the search area and
M should have been the Mark to which it is compared. But Stephen is
Dutch; where the ground is lower than the water, everything's flipped
over topsy-turvy. That's why it's the other way around.

"M" shouldn't stand for "mail" or "message" because the search area
isn't always the entire message. "L" shouldn't stand for "largeness"
because there's no such word. I'd accept L for "line," as in the place
in varying sizes of the search area where the fraction crosses unity,
and M for the measurement of the search area.

Seriously, your under/over stuff for remember which way > divides and
which way < divides is clever.

And a new |a| > |b| (without abs, but both |a| and |b| <= 46,340 =
MAXINT^0.5)

a = -3 b = -10 :0 *          1^0 *$ dot ??  1^2 < $a *$ dot ?? -1^2 <
$b { action }

Good, except that I don't understand why you have the unconditional
point at the start, unless you're testing for |a| >= |b| rather than
|a| > |b|.

I've received a lot of messages with negative content in my time
but not in that sense. Thanks for the correction.

Negative content is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

Not after you delete it.
