There has to be some information missing from the description here. I
have a few questions. The first one is, where are you testing this
recipe from? /etc/procmailrc? Root's private .procmailrc? Somewhere
else? I'm now starting to suspect you have "duelling rc-files."

<snip>

My other questions are, just what rc-files are being invoked as this
mesasge traverses your system?  1) /etc/procmailrc ? 2) root's .procmailrc
?
3) postmaster's .procmailrc?  user X's .procmailrc?

My recipe is in /etc/procmailrc - there is only other .procmailrc file on
the system and his account was not involved in my test when I put only the
log headers and the subject recipe to a test early this morning

I still think somewhere in there this message is being cloned.

Yes, may not be procmail/formail - could be sendmail.

Here is something to try.

<snipped example>

I ran your test and it worked - I'm still leaning toward sendmail as the
root cause on LINUX - remember it's only when I use an alias from
/etc/aliases that the dups occur.

By the way, notice that in the formail statement above I took the colon off
the
end of the From extraction. I think we don't want to discard the From_
(top)
line.

The "From:" line is being kept - not sure what you mean by "From_".

Also, I notice you are not saving the Date: header. Don't you want to keep
the Date:? (And what about Messaage-ID:?)

Date can be added once I get this working. Message-ID may be key to
sendmail issue - I'll do some testing with it - the dups have different
message-id's BTW.

Another thing to try is: grab my file called "vsnag.self-test.rc" from
http://vsnag.spamless.us/src/tools and run it as an INCLUDERC just above
your
relevant recipe block, per the instructions within the file in the
commented
area near the top. Look over the output in your log.

Thanks, that looks like it may be very useful.
