Our customers can tweak their own .procmailrc files.
The logfiles are, technically, for the System Department's use.
My technique doesn't require explicit locks, and it works. Always.
You win.
Heh.
Because then the users would complain....
It's not "My" email, as such, that we're discussing, you see.
When people violently disagree about something...
Most of the time, they're not actually talking about the same
thing.
Even though both parties may THINK they are.
Sure, but isn't the _original_ eMail better suited than some
entries in your logfile?
Not if you have users who think that the NSA is reading their
mail. Keeping a copy of the entire mail around has privacy
issues galore for most.
Given that I still have no idea what your TRAP does, ...
% man procmailrc
TRAP When procmail terminates it will execute the
contents of this variable. A copy of the mail
can be read from stdin. Any output produced
by this command will be appended to $LOGFILE.
Possible uses for TRAP are: removal of tempo-
rary files, logging customised abstracts, etc.
See also EXITCODE and LOGABSTRACT.
My TRAP copies the entire header, complete with anything added by the
anti-spam system, to the log file, and appends a line saying which
folder the mail was delivered to. Saves us a ton of grief when a user
complains about something, and can't be instructed how to show the
full headers, or sometimes if they could, their MUA insists on hiding
the juicy bits.... So this short-circuits that whole tedious process.
And yes, the logs are rotated over a reasonably short period.
And you chose the latter?!
Nope.
I chose a custom-made middle ground.
Aloha mai Nai`a!
