For those that want to see this session, you can download an mpeg from:

ftp://limestone.uoregon.edu/pub/videolab/video/ietf59/ietf59-ch1-thur-am_040304_0845_5.mpg

Note that this mpeg is 1.2GB of nice high res pictures of people
talking. I'm downloading this file now, and if people are interested,
I will convert it to a much lower res mpeg and put it up on
bittorrent. (I did this with last year's FTC spam conference also.)

Welp, I have downloaded the mpeg and I am currently in the process of
re-encoding it. It looks like I will be able to make the video about
a factor of 10 smaller (150MB vs 1.2GB), with very little reduction in
quality. The re-encoding command that I'm using is:

mencoder -o ietf_marid.avi -oac mp3lame -ovc lavc \
   -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=100 -lameopts preset=voice \
   ietf59-ch1-thur-am_040304_0845_5.mpg

Last year, when I used the same command for the FTC spam conference
videos, I received some reports that MS-Windows users could not view
the resulting file, but that other Linux users could use mplayer/xine
just fine.

Is there anyone interested in beta testing the start of this video?
Is there anyone who can suggest a better way of re-encoding the video?

I have placed the first 1MB of the re-encoded video on my website at:
http://www.midwestcs.com/spf/ietf_marid_start.avi

Note that there isn't anything interesting on this clip, the camera
people were kind enough to capture 20minutes of pre-meeting background
noise and cut off at least some of the end of the meeting. *sigh*.
