That's poor logic. You might as well just say 'email is already broken
due to people who refuse to accept any MAIL FROM:<>', and give up.

These 'ad-hoc and home-grown SPF-like checks' are just local
misconfigurations. Such things will always exist. There's no need to
_legitimise_ such breakage.
