Discussion of Email Caller ID Boycott

2004-03-29 21:59:45
I've founded a site dedicated to reasons against using Microsoft's
Caller-ID for E-mail. I'm looking for comments with any additional
reasons that you guys can think of for choosing an open, unpatented
solution over a proprietary, controlled architecture, especially when it
will (hopefully) be powering much of the email traffic on the Internet
in the future.

So far my reasons include those both technical (verbosity of XML versus
SPF's format), IP (patent-encumbered versus free) and legal (the
trademark of "Caller-ID for email" is owned by someone other than
MSFT!). If you can suggest anything or have any other comments, feel
free to let me know.

My suggested alternative is, of course, SPF. :)

Feel free to Slashdot the site - I'm hoping to get some exposure to
this.
