Subject: RE: [spf-discuss] MAY vs SHOULD vs MUST
Fixing the external HELO name used by Windows & Exchange 2000/2003 SMTP
takes 30 seconds. Perhaps we should document this somewhere on the
"administrators guide" as a necessary step before publishing (if you run
Windows)?
That works for those of you who only send mail through MTAs that you
control.
My domain sends mail through at least 4 different MTAs (for a variety of
reasons that aren't going to change). None of these are under my control.
I know that 2 are BSD UNIX and one is Windows. I don't know that fourth.
As soon as you impose MTA configuration requirements that are not currently
being met to publish and SPF record, the thousands of us out here how do not
(and don't want to) run our own MTAs are out of the picture for a long time
to come.
I like SPF. Please don't upgrade it to the point I can't use it anymore. I
believe that MUST check HELO if HELO is a FQDN will work for me.
