Before moving there it would be prudent to read 'A year in Provence'.
Having lived in France for two years I find the book somewhat understated.
If you can scrape together about $1.5 mil you can live in a small chateaux.
For circa $3 mil you can retire to a castle in the UK, albeit in Hibernean
fringes where the weather is not exactly clement.

Well, according to my husband, one can retire forever to the south of
France with $1million right now.
And he should know..he's been looking at it fairly seriously. south
of france is very reasonable, and beautiful, still.
