SPF web site

2004-11-09 06:45:56
In response to Wayne's request to keep thing public as much as possible,
i'm taking this to spf-discuss.

I have just this to say: James believes he has a god-given right to
represent spf. Fine, I doubt that he is the right person for the cause.
In fact, he is doing more damage than good. The fact that most people
are ignoring him nowadays anyway (a fact he complains about a lot
lately), surely doesn't give me the impression he has a right to lead
this community.

I can only ask that the leading body is formed ASAP. I hereby officially
declare that if James is to be in this body, I am leaving SPF (as are a
number of other people who have told me privately, i can only hope these
people will make their opininion public, i'm not going to repeat what
has been said to me in confidence). This is not a threat, it's a fact.

Finally, to James, if you perceive people are giving you 'a lot of
shit', and you perceive that people are ignoring you, perhaps you should
ask yourself 'am i crazy, or is the world?'.

I am not signing the statement on openspf.org, not because it doesn't
basically reflect my thoughts, but because James ie behind it and i
don't trust him anymore.

Kind regards,

Koen

All the previous remarks and explanations are immediately negated by this
comment :-

" Just why are you so worried about what I am working on anways? This is
a free world, and I am free to work on whatever I want -- just as you
are and clearly have been. I just wish that either I was able to be
more clear about my intentions (I've been pretty bloody clear) or that
there was less traffic on SPF-DISCUSS so that more posts were given the
attention they warrant."

and from a previous post --

"Its _MY_ domain name! "

In summary, it would appear that we are all invited to contribute, but final
control will rest with the individual who "owns" the domain and hosts the
website. I don't think the tone or content af these remarks give any
confidence in the impartiality of the "editor-in-chief". Surely a more
reasonable attitude would be demonstrated by saying something along the
lines of "the domain name is held in trust for the SPF community", and
maybe the offer of direct access to the website for the addition of content
which would not be touched by the host, but then - who am I to comment?

And on a slightly different topic --

" I encourge NO ONE to donate to SRS because its inherently a bad solution
anyways. Because of the astonishing way in which I was treated, and
because of the rude and generally obnoxious way Shevek went about
treating those on the SRS discussion list who made suggestions I decided
to look elsewhere for a solution. "

This comment clearly demonstrates a bias towards a course of action for
purely non-technical reasons.

All in all it is difficult to see how one could co-operate with a person
having such a stance on these matters....

If you want to work with me, I'm MORE then happy, but I'm not going to
sit back and kick over all my work just because you two think you are
better suited to be doing so. I made my intentions quite clear an
exceptionally long time ago, so perhaps it should be other other way
around. Why I wasn't approached I don't know, but the offer still
stands, and even if you should choose to do something else, your goals
are in line with the betterment of SPF so I still don't see any reason
why whatever it is you end up doing that we could not be working with
each other in some way, shape, or form.

Cheers,

James
