Here is a brief summary of my relevant info.
If elected to serve I will: Listen.
I don't believe it's the job of a council like this one to make decisions
based on their own opinions, beliefs or feelings. A leadership council
should do its best to listen to the members of the community and act on
their behalf.
I have been active on this list since last December. I'm not a programmer
per se but I can hammer out small- to medium-sized perl scripts. Probably
my most notable contribution to SPF was adding the SPF record with the
weird exists: bit for logging failures to altavista.com and 800+ other
domains altavista owned at the time. I was also quite active in MARID.
My main experience is in system administration. I have worked for about 10
years as a system administrator and a manager of syadmin teams. As a
sysadmin, my role has always been to make systems work reliably and
processes work repeatably. I can solve problems creatively, but I prefer
to save my "creative" solutions for "difficult" problems and not create
solutions that are more complex than they need to be.
As a manager, my role has been to organize work, inspire people, lead by
example, prioritize tasks and resolve conflicts. Mostly I prefer to hire
specialists and then get the hell out of the way, providing strategic and
tactical support and mostly trusting the judgement of other smart people.
If I'm not elected to serve on the council, I will continue working for SPF
in other ways, such as tending the mailing list, talking about SPF with
other sysadmins, going and speaking about SPF if asked, etc.
