I have to agree with this sentiment. Imagine the following
conversation:

Hello, Acme Stores.

Hi, I'd like to buy a dozen Acme Widgets. Do you have them
in stock?

Yes, come on by. We're open until 10.

Great! Where exactly are you?

Intersection of Route 1 and Route 3700.

How do I get there from the city?

If you're driving, get on Route 1 and go north 17 miles.

Hm, I don't drive.

You can take a cab from the city, but that would be about $45.

Can I take a bus?

No, unfortunately buses don't run out here.

Train?

No, no train service either. I'm afraid everybody gets here
by driving.

Okay, fine. But I'll have to borrow my neighbour's car, and
their car is a stick shift.

Your point is ...?

I need you to teach me to drive stick.
