Stuart, if you're ever going to be taken seriously, you're going to
have to learn to understand what other people mean when talking about

It may have nothing to do with relaying within the receiver's system,
but it is still (IMHO) the receiver's problem. The originator sends to
the email address supplied by (or on behalf of) the recipient. If the
recipient receives mail at user(_at_)example(_dot_)com, once it is accepted by a
server which is an MX for example.com it becomes the receiver's
responsibility, not the sender's, to ensure that it is forwarded to
the final 'real' mailbox. It is like renting an accommodation address
for your postal mail and advertising this as your mailing
address. Once mail has been delivered to the accommodation address, it
is then your responsibility to ensure that the mail reaches you,
either by collecting it or having it forwarded to your 'real' mailing
address.
