So you're following the second strategy ("MAYbe not"), and when
it didn't reach the "EOF" you switch to the first MAY-strategy
for the rest of the record. Perfectly legal.

wars between libspf vs. libspf2 and unknown mechanisms vs.
only unknown modififiers, what you do is precisely what Wayne
