Would you rather that domains on junk email^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hmarketing
literature be forged? SPF is not about spam, but about forgery.
You don't have to accept mail just because it passes SPF. But you might
want to whitelist fun marketing literature from, say, thinkgeek.com (yep - I
actually signed up :-) ), without other companies being able to horn in via
forgery. (Thinkgeek doesn't have an SPF record (for shame), but at least it
passes via best_guess.) Or you can safely blacklist a domain that has
been sending you spam that passes SPF - without fear of blocking an
innocent forgery victim, or whitelist a correspondent.

Your smiley says you already know this: I am just repeating it explicitly
because media soundbites persistently talk about SPF as "anti-spam".
