My problem is
1. I'm using Redhat 7.0 + imap2000-3 as my email server which uses a lot of
time to login the pop3, and each empty account needs about 30 sec to fetch.
2. I have more than 10 account to fetch, so it totally takes up more than 
15
minutes evenif all the mail boxes are empty.
I'd say you have a DNS issue.  I've got Mandrake 7.2 (kernel 2.4.1 and 
2.2.18) with the UWash IMAP2000 server.  It takes no time at all to collect 
email from 9 mailboxes, certainly under a minute if they're all empty - even 
the remote mailboxes don't take more than 5 seconds if they're empty.
Long pauses during connection initiation usually indicates that the reverse 
DNS lookup (on the server, trying to identify your client) is failing (ie 
your client has no rDNS entry).  Get this resolved and you should find the 
problem goes away.
