My problem is
1. I'm using Redhat 7.0 + imap2000-3 as my email server which uses a lot of
time to login the pop3, and each empty account needs about 30 sec to fetch.
2. I have more than 10 account to fetch, so it totally takes up more than
15
minutes evenif all the mail boxes are empty.
I'd say you have a DNS issue. I've got Mandrake 7.2 (kernel 2.4.1 and
2.2.18) with the UWash IMAP2000 server. It takes no time at all to collect
email from 9 mailboxes, certainly under a minute if they're all empty - even
the remote mailboxes don't take more than 5 seconds if they're empty.
Long pauses during connection initiation usually indicates that the reverse
DNS lookup (on the server, trying to identify your client) is failing (ie
your client has no rDNS entry). Get this resolved and you should find the
problem goes away.
