3. The point remains that "Mail-Followup-To" is ignored by the
vast majority of all UAs and by all of the most widely used UAs.

False. Example: Mutt is a widely used MUA that honors Mail-Followup-To.

Mutt is not "widely used" compared to Microsoft Outlook, Netscape/Mozilla/
Thunderbird, etc.

Do you have a reference to back up this claim?

Do you seriously doubt that in the general population that usage
of MS Outlook is not at least several orders of magnitude greater
than that of mutt?

No. However, it seems that at least one of the problems discussed
here -- how to enhance the reply functionality of e-mail to make it
possible to avoid duplicate copies in mailing list discussions -- is
not a general problem.

You need to be on mailing lists to actually worry about the problem.
I do doubt the general user is on enough mailing lists to worry about
this problem. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to solve the
problem.

Anyway, there is
http://www.terena.nl/library/multiling/ml-mua/mua-statist.html
which is a bit old. Nevertheless, mutt is way down on the list,
below Juno's proprietary MUA.

That is over 6 years old. It is based on less than 3000 e-mails. It
is surveyed among "TERENA Community" users only. It seems difficult
to build any conclusion at all on that survey.

Thanks,
Simon
