Justin Mason mentioned tms and TMDA
Can you provide any discussion of the success of these systems
in blocking spam? Are the users happy with these systems? If they are
successful, why haven't they been deployed more broadly? Are there any
IPR constraints that would prevent IETF working groups from discussing
similar approaches, etc...

Note: I believe that Intel/Xircom and others have patents that cover
some applications of this technology.
If they do, and they cover the spam-filtering case, I hoped they were
filed before 1997, when "tms" was posted (see
http://www.DeepEddy.Com/tms.html ). Nowadays, thousands of people are
using TMDA, another more popular and well-maintained implementation of
the same idea.
So far, 2 patent applications on this technology that I know of, have
had TMDA submitted as "prior art".
Got any patent ref numbers?
