Do you mean that many receiving MTAs don't support rejection of messages
based on content, or that if the receiving MTA rejects during the DATA
command the sending MTA will not "accept" the 500 error?
In the former case, it is easy enough for those wanting to improve their
content based scanning procedure to get an improved MTA. They are already
making a substantial change to their system.
If the latter, what happens to the message? Is it dropped on the floor?
Does the receiving MTA get some acknowledgment that the the error has not
been accepted? Can you provide MTA names? Do the offenders include any of
Exchange, Postfix, qmail?
Finally, does this mean that MILTER based content scanning will lose mail
coming from certain other MTAs, rather than rejecting it?
