I think you do not understand X.400. While X.500 had much to do
with "identity," there was nothing in X.400 concerning identity,
preferences, etc. And, the issues being discussed in this forum had
nothing to do with any reason why X.400 is not successful today.
(Note: I was part of the definition of and first commercial
implementation of X.400, etc... Don't get me started.)
