All true, but all irrelevant.

On your last sentence above, we've cycled back to "this is not a
zero-sum game," so there's no point in arguing that further.

On the first paragraph, it doesn't make any difference what authority
is being exercised or even who has the right to exercise it. It only
matters that Fred is a third party with the power to influence what is
done, and that by asserting that influence he can have an effect that
extends beyond the interaction between the original two parties (i.e.,
beyond baker and well-keeper or beyond spammer and mail-provider).

Obviously, I haven't granted that access to you because I'm following
the advice of a trusted third party. If I handed over automated control
of access to my systems to that third party and he chose to lock out all
my developers (damn, where's that Dilbert link when you need it), then
we might be approaching a valid analogy.

As to whether I've damaged you, I can't tell. If you work for the
Chinese government and you get fired from your job because you can't
steal secrets from my system, then yeah, I probably damaged you. That
you may have deserved to be damaged is also irrelevant.
