Why does everyone seem to think "patented" is a
jurisdiction-independent state? People just say "patented" - and on a
fairly specifically cross-jurisdictional list! - as if it were
something that were the same everywhere.
Because no standards organization would build an Internet spec that
cannot be used worldwide. And since the patent is most likely in the
US, that would be a rather significant jurisdiction to leave out in an
anti-spam effort.
