Sure. But do end-users want to, and should they have to?

That's a good question.

Just because a rickety old standard technically makes it possible to
distinguish between a confusion of originating, authoring, authorizing,
resending and non-delivery report addresses, does not imply that it should be
imposed on the billion or so end-users who have little choice but to use that
standard.

The standard makes the distinction between all these addresses but at the end of the day, the end-user is only interested in from whom this email is.

It's also an interesting presumption that it is the end-user that needs
educating about the, er, richness of email addressing. Perhaps it's more
important for us implementors to be educated about how end-users really want to
think about email addressing and adapt our thinking to their needs?

As implementors, our job is to address the needs of the end-user instead of expecting them to know how the post office works. Do I care about email forwarding? Yes, because I find it convenient to receive mail from several accounts across different domains without having to check each account individually. Does the average user care about email forwarding? They haven't heard about it. :) They check each account for mail.

The end-user expects email communication to be easy and trustworthy. They won't change their MUA because it works for them up till now. And they don't want to be bothered with "RFC2822.From".
